Rockhampton Regional Council has wasted little time laying the bitumen for a much-needed carpark expansion at Rockhampton Airport.
The Rockhampton Regional Council has released the following article on its website detailing progress of the carpark development:
For those travellers who have recently been through Rockhampton Airport you would have noticed construction works have commenced to develop the new carpark to the rear of the existing public carpark.
This is good news for travellers who frequent the airport as more spaces are created to accommodate the approximately 680,000 passengers annually who use the airport.
Mr David Blackwell, Manager of Rockhampton Airport, said that, the carpark expansion is the next step, in the ongoing development of Rockhampton Airport.
“In order to facilitate the construction works and relieve congestion, a temporary parking area to the north of the passenger terminal has been made available, while the new carpark is being constructed,” said Mr Blackwell.
The existing public carpark will remain open throughout the carpark expansion project.
Alterations are also underway to the staff carpark, which will see a more efficient layout for this area.
“During construction of the new carparking facilities, we ask for people’s patience and understanding and we encourage people to use the temporary carpark area,” Mr Blackwell said.
“The easiest way to get to the temporary carpark is to turn right at Canoona Road, just before the Airport entrance and follow the road to the northern end of the passenger terminal” he said.
